The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan is a compact crossover with European sensibilities and sportier handling than competing SUVs. Buyers at dealerships like the Porterville Volkswagen dealer love the Tiguan’s spacious cabin and long list of the latest technology features. An available third row of seating is a feature not found in rival models, making the Tiguan even more versatile.
According to the Porterville VW dealer, the Tiguan gets a styling refresh for 2022 with a look that conforms to the designs of its Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport stablemates. New features include LED headlights, new wheel designs, and a restyled grille and bumpers. On the inside, there’s a new steering wheel with touch controls. All trim levels now come with a digital gauge display and heated seats. All models except the S include lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and a new touch-sensitive climate control panel. Also standard on these trims is Volkswagen’s Travel Assist, a semi-autonomous driving mode.
The 2022 Volkwagen Tiguan comes in four trim levels: S, SE, SE R-Line Black and SEL R-Line. All models are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 184 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, matched to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Front-wheel drive is standard across the lineup, but buyers can choose the available 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. EPA-estimated fuel economy is rated at up to 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.*
Standard features for the base S trim include 17-inch alloy wheels, LED exterior lighting, heated cloth seats, keyless entry and push-button start. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and reverse automatic braking comes standard, as does forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking. Available features include 20-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, cooled front seats, park assist, a surround-view camera system, and the IQ.Drive suite of driver-assist features.
The Tiguan’s easy-to-use infotainment system features touch-sensitive controls. This setup includes a 6.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8.0-inch configurable digital gauge display, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Audiophiles will appreciate the available nine-speaker, 480-watt Fender stereo system and 15-color ambient interior lighting. A 10.3-inch digital gauge display is available.
There’s plenty of room inside the 2022 Tiguan. Even tall passengers can be seated comfortably in the second row, even if the front-row occupant tilts the seat back. The 40/20/40 split second-row seat folds flat to accommodate cargo. It can slide forward and back, providing passengers with more leg room or offering drivers more cargo space.
Volkswagen engineers its vehicle with safety in mind, and the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan is very safe. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIIHS) hasn’t tested the 2022 Tiguan as of this writing. However, the 2021 Tiguan received excellent ratings from the IIHS. The organization named the Tiguan a Top Safety Pick, with the highest marks of Good in all crash tests.
