The 2018 Volkswagen Jetta is a compact sedan that features plenty of interior space to keep the driver and passengers comfortable. According to the San Joaquin car dealer Bakersfield VW, the Jetta has more cabin space than many midsize sedans. The 2018 Jetta is reliable, too, with powerful engines and a cabin that’s amazingly quiet.
The Jetta picks up two new models for 2018. The Wolfsburg Edition is named for the town in Germany where Volkswagen’s headquarters is located. The new SE Sport trim is equipped with an inline-4 engine that makes 170 horsepower. Each trim level gets a few changes. Most trims get styling touches such as an updated grille and new wheels. Buyers can take advantage of Volkswagen’s new warranty, which is now twice as long as last year’s. You’ll get a 6-year, 72,000-mile comprehensive warranty.
The automotive press received the 2018 VW Jetta favorably, with Kelley Blue Book writing: “If you desire a sporty fuel-efficient sedan with European flair and a comfortable, high-quality interior you’ll like the 2018 Volkswagen Jetta. VW is known for its excellent turbocharged 4-cylinder engines, and the 1.4-liter, 1.8-liter and 2.0-liter variants available in the Jetta are smooth, powerful and they can surely stretch a gallon of gas.”
The 2018 Volkswagen Jetta is offered in six trims: S, Wolfsburg Edition, SE, SE Sport, SEL and GLI. The S, Wolfsburg Edition and SE are powered by a 1.4-liter inline-4 engine that generates 150 hp and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, connected to a standard five-speed manual transmission or an available six-speed automatic gearbox. The SE Sport and SEL models are equipped with a 1.8-liter inline-4 developing 170 hp and 184 lb.-ft. of twist, mated to the six-speed automatic gearbox. Under the hood of the GLI sits a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 that puts out a solid 210 hp and 207 lb.-ft. of torque, paired with a six-speed manual.
There’s ample room for cargo, with 15.5 cubic feet of space in the trunk, enough space to pick up a full load of groceries, kids’ sporting gear or anything else you’ll need to carry. Inside, you’ll experience the cabin’s beautiful styling, which is reminiscent of an Audi. An adjustable armrest that’s standard on all models other than the base S is located between the driver and the front passenger, and the windows can be operated with one-touch power controls. Attractive leatherette-clad seats bring a touch of class to the cabin and music lovers will enjoy the easy-to-use stereo with a touchscreen.
Safety is important when you’re selecting a new car. Thankfully, the 2018 Volkswagen Jetta comes with a long list of safety equipment, including traction and stability control, antilock disc brakes, active front head restraints, a rearview camera and airbags. Available driver-assist features include forward collision warning with automatic braking, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic alert and parking sensors.
Crash test ratings are a good indication a vehicle will keep you and your family safe in the event of a collision. The NHTSA gave the 2018 Volkswagen Jetta five-out-of-five stars in overall crash testing.
